This unit has introduced you to chemistry. You got a picture of what its study entails,the discipline of the mind needed to make scientific studies,the skills required in employing the scientific method,and the importance of measurements in science. As you go on with you study using this textbook,you will learn more about chemistry. What you learned in this unit will become more meaningful as you undestand the different concepts and principles,acquire skills and demonstrate proper attitude and values as you apply chemistry to your daily activities and the protection of our environment.
Go to your kitchen. Look around and study the variety of materials that you can find. The most basic of these is water,which you use for cooking,cleaning,and washing clothes. Your cupboard may contain fish sauce(patis),vinegar,cooking oil,baking powder,flour.table salt,sugar,and flavoring agents such as vetsin or monosodium glutamate. If you use gas stove, it must be fueled by liquefied petroleum gas.
