Flavor and fragrance industry

The flavor and fragrance industry is a multi-billion dollars industry that is still growing.

Most people do not realize that part of the ingredients in everything they buy come from the flavor and fragrance industry.

Some of the examples from the flavor and fragrance industry include:

The mint taste in the toothpaste

The flower scent in the shampoo

The green tea flavor ice cream

The chicken flavor instant ramen

The alpine scent floor cleaner

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to work in the flavor and fragrance industry.

It was a large factory manufacturing the scent, and flavor for customers.

There was a place in the middle of the compound that was very special.

When you stood there, you could smell all the scents from the different parts of the factory.

You could smell the chicken flavor from the east side, the coffee flavor from the west side, the rose scent from the north and the jasmine scent from the south.

When you had all the four different flavor and scents assaulting you from all sides, the result is a disgusting combination.

Workers in this industry have a high rate of sick leaves.

They are not pretending to be sick. They are literally sick.

All the scents and flavors are just chemicals.  When you have to take in chemicals into your body for 10 hours a week, your body will try to cleanse you from the attack of the chemicals.

The result is you get sick.

I worked in the company for a few weeks until my body could not take it anymore.

Even though that was a short stint, the scent and flavor in the processed food, perfume, household cleaners, shampoo, and other cosmetic products always remind me of the flavor and fragrance industry.

I always bear in mind that the flavor and fragrance are just chemicals.  They are not from nature.

    • It's true that a lot of scents and flavourings are artificial. I prefer to work with naturally sourced scents, and to use the flavours that come from wholesome foods.
