The national chairman of the All

Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade

Adams Oshiomhole, has urged party

members in Delta state to mobilise

people in the state in order to defeat

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of the People

Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019.

Oshiomhole made the statement on

Tuesday, July 24, after he succeeded in

brokering a peace deal between APC

factions in Delta state, Vanguard reports.

As part of the peace deal which held in

Abuja, Prophet Jones Ode Erue, was

allowed to remain the state chairman,

while other positions in the state

executive would be harmonized to

accommodate the interests of all parties.Oshiomhole in a statement signed by his

spokesperson, asked the party leaders to

embrace the Prophet Erue led leadership

in order to ensure lasting peace and

reconciliation in the party in Delta state.

“I have said it before that I have interest

in Delta state because Edo and Delta is

one. And we must ensure that Delta joins

Edo state in APC through democratic

means. And I know that we all can do it if

we can reconcile our differences and

confront the real enemy, which is the PDP.

And whatever we are doing, I believe we

should think about the interest of Delta

people who have been denied of good

governance by the PDP administration

over the years,” he stated.

“Only one person can be governor at a

time and before you knew it, eight years is

over and another person takes over. So,

we must not see it as a do or die affair.

We must all work together make

concessions and go back to work

immediately because we have no time. We

are going to confront an incumbent who is

desperate to return but we will mobilize

Delta people to stop Dr Ifeanyi Okowa.”

He however condemned what he

described as unwarranted media attacks

on his person and the national working

committee of the party by some party

members in Delta state.

Meanwhile, following the mass defection

of 15 senators from the All Progressives

Congress (APC) on Tuesday, July 24, the

Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan, has

insisted that the ruling APC still has a

majority in the Senate with 52

lawmakers.

Senator Lawan stated this after a two-

hour meeting of the APC caucus on

Tuesday, July 24. Though optimistic that

some of the defecting senators will have

a rethink and return to the APC, Lawan

said the party still has a majority in the

Senate.

The majority, he said, was earned by

having 52 senators as against 50 of the

PDP.
